Simply put, the essential, ultimate Tuscan rosso. Made with 100% Sangiovese grapes, this is the original ‘Vino da Tavola’ that broke into the realm of iconic. The treat of opening a Le Pergole Torte truly makes any night special. Always with a sense of nobility and elegance, the wine is at the level only the greats can share. A few key notes...

- The Montevertine estate left the Chianti Classico label behind with the birth of Le Pergole Torte. The strict tradition and law, at that time, of adding white grapes to the wine didn’t line up with Sergio Manetti’s vision for a 100% Sangiovese wine. The belief in the grape and strong, singular terrior of the region proved to be absolutely correct, as the wine couldn't be ignored.

- From Radda in Chianti, home to some of the highest elevation and rockiest vineyards in the region. The wine is a blend of the estates best fruit from several parcels, fermented in cement vats, then aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels and about 12 months in Allier barriques.

- Serious ageability here! The wine will evolve and live a graceful, long life in the bottle (30+ years) while still glowing in its youth. The 2015 bottling is being hailed as one of the greats, with the Tuscan sun giving it's love to the vineyards.

How about popping the bottle? The first thing you notice is the color, a gorgeous ruby. Notes of cherry, savory spice, and violet. This expression of Sangiovese is one of balance and refinement. Smokey earth and new leather, along with fresh herb notes are secondary characteristics. The finish is deep and long.

The wine can do very well with an array of foods, as the balance of acid, fruit, and tannin is just right for the table. But the perfect pairing has to be, as the Tuscans do, a Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Head on over and see our friends at The Meat Hook (pictured above) and get some steaks for this thing!
