Coming from the Valle de Guadalupe in the highlands of Jalisco, La Gritona Tequila is made with traditional methods and the utmost integrity. Melly Barajas Cárdenas begins her product with 100% blue agave that's been allowed to come to ideal maturation (9-10 years), and is cut at the height of its sugar production. Distillation takes place all under one roof, utilizes ambient yeasts, and reused American whiskey barrels for aging. The finished product is packaged in bottles crafted from recycled coke bottles. Leftover agave remnants are given to to local cattle producers to use as feed. Less than 10% of Mexico's Tequila distilleries are run by women. Melly Barajas Cárdenas is one of those few, and is leading the pack in more ways than one.
