Domaine de La Grande Colline (Hirotake Ooka), Cornas, 2014 (750ml)
Hirotake started out in chemistry and biology before making his way to Bordeaux for oenology school. Syrah from 25 year old vines, spontaneously fermented in oak. As natural as it comes and quite special in our opinion.
Domaine de La Grande Colline (Hirotake Ooka), St. Joseph Red, 2015 (750ml)
When he shows his modest Ardèche estate, overlooking the Rhone and Valence on three hectares, Hirotake Ooka hastens to specify: "there before, it was only woods. I tore everything myself to plant my vines ". Syrah, on granite.
Domaine Tempier, Bandol Rouge, 2017 (750ml)
There is something about dark, inky Mourvèdre, and the salty sea air passing through the vines every night that typifies classic Bandol. With substantial Mourvèdre at its core, this blend of is complete, and ready to serve cooled down a touch.
Bois de Boursan, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Tradition' Rouge, 2016 (750ml)
Earthy aromas with notes of pepper, herbs, dark fruits and garrigue. Plenty of fruit on the palate, full with an ample tannic grip on the finish. A classic, old-school beauty that will need short-term cellaring and improves in the glass.
