Baudry, Chinon 'Les Granges,' 2018 (750ml)
Baudry is simply put, top dog in Chinon right now. Beautiful cherry fruit at the core with that signature Cab Franc lining of herbaceous goodness. The 'Les Granges' bottling is a fresh and easy to love Chinon that is extremely enjoyable in its youth.
Huet, Vouvray 'Clos du Bourg Sec', 2018 (750ml)
Huet makes damn fine Chenin Blanc. In fact, wine writers have called it THE best. Gaston Huet believes the Clos du Bourg is the greatest of Vouvray due to the shallowest, stoniest soils, which intensify the minerality and generous texture of this wine.
Bonhomme, Touraine Sauvignon Magnum, 2018 (1.5L)
While the original power couple of natural wine - Puzelat and Bonhomme - parted ways a few years ago (very much a conscious uncoupling, if you will) the legacy is alive and thriving in the capable hands of Pierro O. Fresh and nuanced as always, find rocks
Pierre Luneau-Papin, Vera Cruz Muscadet 2018 (750ml)
2018 is a warm vintage but the sun could not over-come the sheer stony minerality of L-P’s Vera Cruz, made from grapes grown in schist based soils. Structured, intense, this wine provides an engaging experience to all the rock-head wine lovers out there!
Olga Raffault, Chinon, 'Picasses', 2014, (750ml)
Not only is this wine made by one of the most renowned domaines in Chinon, it is also from "Les Picasses" an important lieu-dit. Moreover, this tastes like the earthy goodness you want from a Cab Franc and has an even keeled full body.
Fabien Duveau, Saumur Les Poyeux Chenin Blanc, 2016 (750ml)
Fabien Duveau likes to say he was born on a barrel. He represents the 8th generation of his family to make wine, so it is safe to say that is in his blood. Possibly the only single parcel Chenin from Poyeux, the limestone soil is evident on the palate.
